Institute
Scholars Most Cited In Press
The Institute
for International Economics is the most cited think tank in the
print media, according to a new study, "An Assessment of
American Think Tank Visibility in the Media," by Nicolas
S. Ruble, excerpts of which were published in the September/October
issue of The International Economy.
The study,
which reviewed a sample of print media from July 1, 1997 through
June 30, 1999, found that C. Fred Bergsten, director of the Institute,
is the most cited think tank-based economist in the total press
(US press, international press, and economics press). In fact,
on a per scholar basis, the Institute's economists are cited more
than the other think tanks studied for this report. Also, according
to the study, Bergsten testified before Congress on international
economics issues more than any other scholar during the period
studied. He was followed closely in this category by Institute
senior fellow Jeffrey J. Schott who was tied for second place.
