Ryan Rutkowski

Ryan Rutkowski has been a research analyst at the Peterson Institute since September 2012. He works with Senior Fellow Nicholas R. Lardy on economic issues relating to China. He obtained his master's degree in international affairs with a focus on international economics and China studies from the Johns Hopkins University SAIS–Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies in Nanjing, China in 2010. He earned his bachelors of arts in economics, public policy, and international relations with minors in Chinese and Asian studies from Southern Methodist University in 2007. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

Rutkowski's research background is in Chinese capital markets and sovereign risk in Asian economies. Previously he worked as a senior consultant for KPMG management consulting in Beijing, developing market entry and outbound expansion strategies for companies based in China. Prior to this he worked as a research associate for Z-Ben Advisors in Shanghai writing on developments in China's asset management industry. His graduate thesis entitled "Monetary Integration in the Greater China Region" used an optimal currency area framework to test the feasibility of currency integration in the Greater China region. Rutkowski has also written several articles for Asia Times Online discussing sectoral developments in China.
