Robert A. Pastor

(1947-2014)

Robert A. Pastor was appointed in 2002 as the vice president of international affairs and professor of international relations at American University, where he directed the Center for North American Studies and the Center for Democracy and Election Management. He was the Goodrich C. White Professor of International Relations at Emory University and a fellow at founding director of the Carter Center's Latin American and Caribbean Program and the Democracy and China Elections Projects. He also served as director of Latin American and Caribbean affairs on the National Security Council (1977–81). He is author or editor of 12 books on foreign policy, Latin America and the Caribbean, democratization, and trade, including Toward a North American Community: Lessons from the Old World for the New (2001).
