Bela Balassa was Visiting Fellow at the Institute during 1985-90, Professor of Political Economy at The Johns Hopkins University, and Consultant to the World Bank. He authored or coauthored more than 20 books, including New Directions in the World Economy (1989), Comparative Advantage, Trade Policy, and Economic Development (1989), Japan in the World Economy (1988), and Changing Trade Patterns in Manufactured Goods (1988).
