Kristin Forbes

Kristin Forbes, visiting fellow, is on leave for public service. She is an associate professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management. She is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations. From 2003 to 2005, she served as a member of the White House’s Council of Economic Advisers and was the youngest person to ever hold this position. During 2001–02 she worked in the US Treasury Department as the deputy assistant secretary of quantitative policy analysis, Latin American and Caribbean nations. At the start of 2005, she was honored as a “Young Global Leader” as part of the World Economic Forum at Davos. She has written extensively on financial-market contagion, capital controls, currency crises, and the relationship between income inequality and economic growth. She is coeditor of International Financial Contagion (2001) with Stijn Claessens. Forbes was awarded the Milken Award for Distinguished Economic Research in 2000.
