Summary
The Peterson Institute launched a new meetings series, "The Trillion Dollar Club," on September 28, 2008, to discuss the economic developments of the five emerging markets—Brazil, China, India, Korea, and Russia (BRICKs)—whose GDPs exceed that level, and their impact on the world economy.
Resident experts in each country gave their assessment of the current and future impact of these emerging markets: John Williamson on Brazil, Nicholas Lardy on China, Arvind Subramanian on India, and Anders Åslund on Russia. Director C. Fred Bergsten provided an overview of BRICKs. In future meetings of this series, Marcus Noland will provide perspective on Korea. Subsequent installments in the series will address specific elements of the economic development and international position of these emerging market countries.
