Making Monetary Policy for Switzerland in a Global Economy

Thomas J. Jordan, chairman of the governing board of the Swiss National Bank, discussed the challenges faced by central bankers in an uncertain global economic system at an event held at the Peterson Institute on October 8, 2013.
Jordan joined the Swiss National Bank as an economic advisor in 1997 and progressed rapidly through a number of roles. He joined the Bank's governing board as an alternate member in 2004 and became a full member in 2007. He was appointed chairman in April 2012. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Bank for International Settlements and the steering committee of the Financial Stability Board as well as chairman of the International Center for Monetary and Banking Studies. Jordan has published numerous articles on monetary theory and policy in leading international journals. The University of Bern appointed him lecturer in 1998 and honorary professor in 2003.
