The Peterson Institute cohosted an event with the Henry Jackson Initiative (HJI) to discuss how business and labor can make a difference to employment and wage outcomes to build globally sustainable capitalism. A unique group of leaders offered lessons from their own experience with workforce management in today's globalized economy, including: Dominic Barton, Global Managing Director of McKinsey & Company; R. Thomas Buffenbarger, International President of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers; former House Democratic Leader Dick Gephardt; James Leech, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan; Alan Mendoza, President of the Henry Jackson Initiative; and Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild, CEO of E.L. Rothschild.
The Henry Jackson Initiative is a business-led initiative that originated with the work of the Task Force for Inclusive Capitalism, cochaired by Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild and Dominic Barton. The HJI is designed to find solutions to the crisis in capitalism as a result of the global financial crisis of 2007–09 and the dislocations caused by the way capitalism has been practiced over the past 30 years. In particular, the HJI endeavors to identify and promote business practices that increase access to gainful high quality employment, opportunities for small and medium enterprises, and longer-term thinking and investing by large businesses.
