Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, close economic advisor to India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, spoke at the Peterson Institute on November 25, 2009, about the Prime Minister's current visit to Washington and provided an analysis of India's growing role in the world economy.

Ahluwalia has been deputy chairman of the Planning Commission of the Government of India since July 2004 and is also India's sherpa for the G-20 summits. Ahluwalia was previously the first director of the Independent Evaluation Office at the International Monetary Fund. His prior government service includes membership in the Planning Commission and Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, Finance Secretary and Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance, and Commerce Secretary. He spent ten years at the World Bank.
