April 15, 2011

Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Alexei Kudrin led off the conference "The Russian Economy and US-Russia Relations" held at the Peterson Institute on April 15, 2011. Senior Director of the National Security Council Michael A. McFaul delivered the keynote address on the topic of resetting US-Russia relations. Cosponsored by the Peterson Institute, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), and the New Economic School in Moscow, the conference was part of the three institutions' ongoing collaboration in the Russia Balance Sheet project.

The conference aimed to inform the US policymaking community and public of the prospects for Russia's possible accession to the WTO later this year and what the significance would be for the Russian economy, US-Russian economic ties, and the broader bilateral relationship between the two countries. A unique group of leading US and Russian government officials, top business figures from the two countries, and leading experts gathered to illuminate this topic.

Previous collaboration in the Russia Balance Sheet project has resulted in two publications, Russia after the Global Economic Crisis (2010) and The Russia Balance Sheet (2008).
