Senior Fellows Michael Mussa, Arvind Subramanian, and Anders Åslund presented the Institute's seventeenth semiannual Global Economic Prospects program on April 8, 2010. Michael Mussa projected the course of the world economy over the rest of 2010 and for 2011. Arvind Subramanian assessed the prospects for emerging market economies, the likely main driver of global growth in the coming period, with a special focus on India. Anders Åslund discussed Central and Eastern Europe, the locus of many of the chief risks to global expansion.

The world economy seems to be experiencing a three-tiered recovery. The emerging markets, led by China and India, are in the forefront. Europe (along with Japan) is lagging. The United States is in the middle. This forecasting session addressed each of these three components and suggested their likely course over the coming year-and-a-half.
